Naturopathic Medicine sees all aspects of your health as connected. It is grounded in ancient teachings as well as current advances in the study of whole body wellness. The medicine has focus on approaching every patient as a unique individual and believes in supporting the body’s own inherent abilities to heal.
Naturopathic medicine philosophies of health go beyond most of today’s modern pharmaceuticals - which are designed to control symptoms: blood pressure, headaches, high cholesterol, etc. These medications are valuable, can save lives, and are very important in today’s health care; however, they never address the true underlying health problem.
Symptoms are the body’s warning signs that something is wrong. Sometimes these symptoms need to be controlled immediately or they can be life threatening, but often medication is only a quick fix that stops short of removing the disease process. Pharmaceuticals remove the symptoms, but the disease process is still present and the body’s warning signs continue to be ignored.
Symptoms are often uncomfortable and sometimes life threatening and we will certainly alleviate symptoms to ensure that patients are safe and comfortable during the journey to wellness. We are licensed primary care doctors and do have prescriptive rights if we feel that it is appropriate. However, as a Naturopath, we will go beyond treating your health issue solely with medication, as Naturopathic medicine endeavors to determine the underlying causes.
Our role in this process is the teacher, the coach, the counselor, the friend; we will engage you to work with us in the pursuit of health. To us the goal of Naturopathic medicine is to facilitate a journey of lifelong health by nurturing and supporting your self healing mechanisms - thus ultimately empowering you to be responsible for your own health.
